
On Monday, May 20th, we hosted students from Forest Hills East High School in Ada, Michigan’s Gone Boarding Class here in Chicago. Gone Boarding is an innovative twist on shop class in which students design, build and ride their own longboards, surfboards, stand up paddle boards and snowboards.


As an end of the year field trip, they boarded an early (6:30am) bus bound for Chicago and a day truly worthy of the title Gone Boarding.

One last chance at getting some riding in for the season (short of a trip to Hood). Tyrol Basin’s Spring Jam always offers up a lot of fun, a great and innovative park set up and judging by the amount of snow they had at their End of Season Bash, a chairlift this year. Competitions begin at 11:00 on Saturday.

Burton’s Chill Foundation helps underprivileged youths all over the country find snowboarding and learn life skills that last much longer than the program itself. If you can’t get out to the hill to volunteer, the next best thing you can do is come out to The Big Chill fundraiser on Wednesday, March 13th at Sully’s House in Chicago. A $35 donation at the door gets you an all you can drink pass from 7-11 and entry into a raffle to take home prizes including Burton snowboards and lift tickets. This weekend, The Youth Shelter Supply and Powder Ridge are hosting the Snowrider Classic. One of the longest running snowboarding events, the Classic always provides good times and great riding. Check the flyer above for details.

One of our favorite events, the Big Nut Open is coming up in a couple weeks. Now spanning two day, the contest will happen on March 2nd and 3rd at Chestnut Mountain Resort in Galena, IL. Summit Boardshop in Lake Elmo, MN is hosting The Return of the Crews rail jam on February 16th (for skis) and 17th for Snowboards. Get your favorite peeps together (or at least the best ones) and head out to the Summit Backyard for the chance to win some bragging rights and prizes.

Saturday, February 16th, we’ll be out at Sunburst Ski Area in Kewaskum, WI for the latest chapter in the Burton Midwest Demo Tour. Get lifted on the Nug, explore the deeps on the Barracuda, Investigate the Sherlock or just hang out in the Heel Hammock.
For this stop, we’ll be setting up a Burton Riglet Park where you can bring your kids ages 3-6 and get them standing sideways on Burton’s Chopper Board equipped with the revolutionary Riglet Reel.
